AI & Machine Learning
Building and applying machine-learning models, the day-to-day of the practice.
AI & machine learning consultant, app developer, professor, and recovering systems administrator.
United Statistics is my consulting and development practice. It's based in the New River Valley, though I take work as far north as Hinton, West Virginia, where I grew up. These days much of the work is remote, so I'm glad to help whether you're down the road or across the country.
I have a PhD in Information Systems, and I've spent about a decade teaching it and building machine-learning systems, and the applications that put them to work, across healthcare, higher education, and business. Before that, I ran servers and wrote code for a living, so I know what it's like on the other side of a consultant's invoice.
The job, as I see it, is to make this stuff understandable. Most businesses don't need a sweeping “AI transformation”; they need one specific thing to work. I help you figure out what that thing is, whether AI is actually the right way to do it, and then I build it: the model, the app, or both.
And if it isn't the right fit, I'll say so. There's a lot of snake oil in this field. I'd rather lose the project than sell you something that won't pay off.
Building and applying machine-learning models, the day-to-day of the practice.
Healthcare data systems, predictive modeling in cardiology and oncology, and synthetic medical data generation.
Taking the repetitive, error-prone tasks off people's plates at small and mid-size businesses.
Identifying sensitive data, implementing best practices for handling it, and analyzing the cost of data breaches.
Python, R, SQL, and modern data-science tooling to build practical, production-ready solutions.
Deploying AI models and chatbots in academic settings for advising and accreditation-reporting automation.
Helping Instagram creators read their audience data and grow on purpose, not by luck.
Custom synthetic datasets that preserve privacy and statistical properties for testing, training, and research.
Whether to build custom AI in-house or use existing platforms, with cost-benefit analysis and a roadmap.
From running servers, to the research lab, to the lecture hall.
Developing and teaching advanced courses in data science, AI, healthcare information systems, and systems analysis; researching machine learning for healthcare and business.
Started my own practice to do AI and machine-learning consulting for businesses, researchers, and creators around the New River Valley.
Managed technology implementations, systems security, and user access across the organization, partnering with developers to deliver new capabilities.
Built web applications for a county school system, including food-inventory and bus-logistics systems, as primary developer and Microsoft Certified Professional.
A side project where I try ML on small, everyday annoyances, like a recipe finder that skips the life story, and a fitness app called Gain Genie.
It's mostly a sandbox for the idea that AI should help a person do something, not replace them.
A research project on generating synthetic medical data, pairing realistic medical images with the kind of chart data a clinician would write.
The aim is to give researchers usable medical data to train on without ever touching a real patient's records.
